Brought up, as I was at Mount Beauty, I knew that there were dingoes living in the bush around us. My mum used to enthrall us by reading us stories about dingoes. One in particular which had a significant effect on me was the children’s story , ‘The Hobyahs’. This quirky American fairy tale tweaked for Australian children, was found in the Education Department’s Second Grade reader. In it there is a character called ‘Little Yellow Dog Dingo’. It was a scary, yet memorable book which has left a lasting legacy. Another experience with dingoes came one day when I was a child we had a visitor come to our house. Down our driveway came a young boy with this dingo pup and it is to this memory that I painted this dingo.
